Server administarators might need to block Gmail chat without blocking Gmail. Here is a quick tip on blocking Gmail chat.

In Windows,
Block chatenabled.mail.google.com and talk.google.com along with ports 443 and 80.

In Linux,
Redirect chatenabled.mail.google.com and talk.google.com using iptables or /etc/hosts
