Having searching on how to increase the internet connection speed, i found a simple and efficient trick to increase internet connection speed upto 20% in Windows XP. By default, Windows reserves 20% of the available bandwidth for QoS(Quality of Service). ie; you will be only using 80% of the internet connection bandwidth and the rest 20% will be used by Windows XP.
To recover the 20% internet bandwidth used by Windows XP, we must reduce the allocation amount in the Group Policy Editor(gpedit.msc in Windows XP). Follow the steps given to recover the lost bandwidth.
In the run prompt(Win key+R) enter gpedit.msc and press enter key.
Now the Group Policy Editor comes up.
Under Computer Configuration in the console tree, select Administrative Templates
Double click Network, then QoS Packet Scheduler
Double Click on Limit reservable bandwidth setting, Select Enabled and set Bandwidth limit to 2%
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Many users prefer to cop this issue by disabling the QoS service.
But this will make Windows default to the 20% allocation.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Now you are done. Restart your computer and enjoy with the extra bandwidth.
